Expression of Interest (EOI): Screen Queensland Studios, Cairns Tenancy

Background

Screen Queensland is the Queensland Government-owned screen agency, supporting locally produced films, series and games, and securing international and interstate production and post-production into the state. Screen Queensland also funds film festivals and industry conferences and runs initiatives and networking events to build skills and enable the generation of career opportunities for local screen practitioners. Additionally, Screen Queensland owns and operates Screen Queensland Studios, Brisbane in Hemmant.

Screen Queensland is expanding its studio network with the $12.6 million Screen Queensland Studios, Cairns development opening early 2024. The state-of-the-art studio will further enhance the reputation of North and Far North Queensland as a filmmaking destination of choice, building on a long history of high-profile productions such as Paradise Road (1997) through to Wizards! (2022). Additional facilities such as editing and recording suites, meeting rooms, and an event space will help establish Screen Queensland Studios, Cairns as a creative community hub, with tenant businesses offering complementary in-house services for productions as well as to the wider screen sector.

 

Invitation

Screen Queensland is seeking expressions of interest from screen industry businesses to become a tenant within Screen Queensland Studios, Cairns. This opportunity will place successful applicants at the centre of the Cairns Studio Creative Hub and position them to take advantage of the local, interstate and international productions attracted to the facility.

There are multiple tenancies available, ranging between 48m² to 50m² and each tenancy includes 1 onsite car park. Rent is $400 per week plus outgoings.

Screen Queensland welcomes expressions from local Cairns-based screen industry businesses, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander screen industry businesses, and industry suppliers.

Interest from Businesses from outside North and Far North Queensland is welcome, however, to be considered for a tenancy, proposals must include an industry development plan for North/Far North Queensland to employ locally based practitioners, and support Screen Queensland develop a strong screen community eco-system based around the Cairns studio.
